COLETTE tells the story of a woman at the beginning of the modern age, whose voice is suppressed by a dominant man and who goes to extraordinary lengths to make herself heard. Keira Knightley shines as Colette, a young country girl who comes to Paris with her husband. For the cinema release of COLETTE on January 3rd, we are giving away a total of two free tickets and the book WOMEN by Colette . To take part in the competition, all you have to do is answer the following question in the comment box below:
Which book series makes Colette, or incorrectly Willy, famous?
The story
Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette (Keira Knightley), a young, carefree country lady, is newly married to a charismatic and egomaniacal author (Dominic West), who publishes his works under the pseudonym “Willy”. He introduces Colette to the Parisian artistic scene, which will soon stimulate her creative streak. Willy, who is only too happy to exploit other people's talents for his own benefit, allows Colette to publish her novels. But under one condition: his name must be on the envelope.
Thanks to the phenomenal success of the “Claudine” series, Willy becomes a famous author. He and his wife become the first “celebrity couple” of the modern era. Although she is celebrated throughout the city, the lack of recognition for her work begins to eat away at Colette. Their marriage is in danger of falling apart, not least because of Willy's numerous affairs and Colette's increasing interest in women, especially Missy (Denise Gough), who questions classic gender norms. However, she is unable to break away from him emotionally and artistically.
To save his own neck, Willy resorts to increasingly desperate measures to pay off his debts and put obstacles in the way of his wife. But Colette now knows how to help herself very well.
