The story
James Bowen (Luke Treadaway) earns his living as a street musician in London. Thanks to the dedicated social worker Val (Joanne Froggatt), he is able to escape homelessness. She firmly believes in James and organizes a social apartment for the musician with no prospects so that he can finally get away from drugs. Fate hasn't been particularly kind to him so far and the last thing he needs in his new start is an extra appendage! His meager income is barely enough to keep himself afloat. And he's already busy enough trying to get his own life together. He can hardly take responsibility for himself - let alone a pet.
But then everything turns out differently: When there is a rattle in his kitchen one evening, it is not a burglar in the apartment as expected, but a red tabby, ravenous tomcat who looks like his animal counterpart. He decides to give the house guest shelter for one night and then let him go on his way. But the cat doesn't think about freedom. When James goes back to playing music on the street because he's almost broke, the cat makes it clear to him that he doesn't want to stay home alone. His new master tries to shake him off, but he doesn't succeed. Bob the cat becomes a loyal companion who follows him wherever he goes and never leaves his side. Using a shoelace as a leash, the duo begins walking through the city together. Bob seems to bring James real luck and the two become a crowd puller.
An incredible friendship begins... through which James gradually finds his way back to life. Sometimes it takes nine lives to save one...
