But there is another way: Lifelong learning and online study programs are a contemporary solution in which more regionality and educational offerings for everyone could be part of the higher education system of tomorrow. The online-based university does not require any teaching staff; the materials consist of 'open educational resources' provided by well-known universities. Iceland
HÁSKÓLINN Á HÓLUM
The Icelandic University of Hólum has an almost family-like atmosphere with 290 students, seven professors and 14 lecturers. Teaching topics include Icelandic horse breeding, the fishing industry and rural tourism. The courses have a strong regional focus, with the focus being on advancing regional interests, from which the Icelandic economy also benefits.
