The story
In 1973, 16-year-old Paul (Charlie Plummer), grandson of billionaire oil magnate J. Paul Getty (Christopher Plummer), is kidnapped by the mafia in Rome. The kidnappers demand a ransom of $17 million, but the richest man in the world doesn't even think about paying. The old curmudgeon thinks the whole thing is a set-up and fears imitators - after all, he has 13 other grandchildren. Only Paul's desperate mother Gail (Michelle Williams) continues to fight for her son's life. She tirelessly tries to change old Getty's mind and ultimately teams up with his security advisor, ex-CIA man Fletcher Chase (Mark Wahlberg).
